Takeaway: This might be an easy and inexpensive fix that costs less than $10 and take about 30 minutes to complete.

Broken monitor? Do a quick and easy repair for the L17LCD2 flat panel monitor by identifying and replacing dead capacitors rather than tossing it and buying an expensive new one. Ten minutes and $10 could potentially save you hundreds. The monitor would come on for about 1 second then shut off even though the power indicator stayed blue. Turning off the monitor and turning it on again produced the same effect. This video shows you how to do the repair for this. You will need a soldering iron and basic soldering knowledge.

Once you get the casing open for the monitor. Take a close look at the capacitors and try to identify any that have bulging or swollen tops. This could indicate that they have failed and need replacing. Remove those capacitor and solder in new ones which only cost a few dollars each. Be sure to match the values on the capacitor with its replacement. This may be all you need to do to get your monitor in full working condition again!
