Takeaway: Easy to use, gets knives sharp, compact for storage.

This is a pretty standard knife sharpener but it works. I have an older one from Cutco that's about this size but is only 1 stage and in my opinion never really did a great job sharpening my blades. The 2-stage sharpener is nice because you've got the honing sharpener for quick touch ups. It appears my knives were super dull because it did take quite a few passes to get my butcher's knife and chef's knife sharp enough to slice a sheet of paper (just like they do on TV!). However, I did notice that the cut isn't super fine, so I wouldn't call the edge "razor sharp" but it is sharp and will cut through food with ease after sharpening. The butcher's knife took me a full 5 minutes to sharpen, going through the process three times but honing on a daily semi-weekly basis is quick and takes only about 30 seconds to put an edge on it and make meals everyday.

There are foam pads on the bottom of the unit to help keep a grip on smooth surfaces, but it's a thin foam and isn't super "sticky" like rubber would be. Make sure to use one hand to apply enough pressure to the handle to keep it from moving.
