Takeaway: Extend the remote control reception of hidden or blocked devices with this IR repeater.
The unit has one IR receiver and one emitter, so you'll be able to control one device with it. The IR receiver comes with its own USB power adapter, but you can also plug the 6.5' USB cable into your TV's USB port if it has one. However, some TVs don’t supply power to their USB ports if the the TV is off, so if you do use the TV's USB port, make sure the TV is on before you try and use the receiver; this means you can't plug the unit into the TV's USB port AND expect to use it to turn your TV on.
Place the receiver where it will be in the line of sight to the remote control. Then place the emitter over the IR remote sensor of the device you want to control. The emitter is on a 10' wire so you'll be able to span a pretty decent distance. The sensor will be green when it has power and flashes red when it’s receiving and repeating a signal. This is handy for devices like DVD players that are hidden in a cabinet or normally out of the line of sight from the remote. I use this to control my speaker system which is partially blocked by the corner of my couch, so I don't have to get up every time to control it with the remote. It’s easy to setup and works well, though the instructions did note that if you're using a plasma display, placing the receiver too close to it may cause you to experience some IR interference.
