Takeaway: Healthy air "fried" foods come out crispy and crunchy without the oil. Food heats and cooks quickly. Decent 2.5 Qt capacity.

The air fryer measures 13" high and has a 10" diameter but is 14" wide including the handle. In the back at the bottom is where the 2 foot cable and plug is stored; it is manually retractable by pushing it back into the base. The fryer bowl is 8" diameter and the inner basket is removable. Both are coated in with a non-stick finish and the basket allows the heat and air to circulate around your food.

The are two control dials: the top dial controls the temperature while the bottom dial sets the timer. The timer can be set to up to 30 minutes. There is no setting for always on for safety reasons.

The temperature can be set from 175°F to 400°F. On the top right hand corner is a chart with times and temperatures for some common foods you might make in the fryer, like fries, fish, chicken and shrimp. The way that this works is that it's basically an electric hot plate with a powerful fan behind it to circulates heat around the frying chamber. This creates a very hot, dry, and even cooking temperature perfect for frying.

I've tried making several things in the air fryer already including potato chips, french fries, kale chips, bacon, sauerkraut balls and fish sticks. Everything came out basically as I expected. The food cooked quickly, was crunchy and didn't have all the fat and oil associated with deep frying. For the kale chips I had to put a wire steam rack over the kale so they wouldn't blow into the heating element and if you're trying a new recipe you have to be sure to check on your stuff to make sure it doesn't burn. You also have to remember to turn the food at least once halfway through the cooking process to make sure everything cooks evenly. Best of all was the bacon because it was mess-free, crunchy and evenly cooked. The unit is pretty easy to clean too, though after several months I have noticed a bit of dried oil build-up that will require a degreaser to remove. Overall, the fryer works well, cooks food quickly and does what a traditional fryer can do and quite a bit more.
