Takeaway: Compact bench, fits 4-6 pairs of shoes, lightweight, sturdy but wobbles slightly.

The bench comes disassembled with a pack of screws, an Allen wrench, the bench seat, cushion, two slat shelves, and two side pieces. The instructions are pretty straightforward and the unit is easy to assemble. It took about 10 minutes to assemble, the hardest part being that the Allen wrench kept slipping out of the hex hole in the screws. The screws are nicely recessed and don't leave a head to get scratched or caught on. I received 1 extra spare screw than needed for assembly in the hardware pack. The finished dimensions of the bench are 20.5" x 11.75" x 19". The two shelves are about 5-6" tall with the lower shelf being slightly taller. The lid of the bench didn't lock when opened and had a tendency to slam shut if you let go of it. The bench compartment in the seat is 1-3/4" deep for storing a few items. The firm foam cushion for the top is 1.5" tall and provided a softer spot to sit than on the wood but wasn't exactly soft like a pillow.

When sitting on the bench, it seems to hold up my weight (125 lbs) fine. However, it isn't super secure as it wobbled a bit, so I wouldn't stand on it as a foot stool. The bench is light and weighs only, 11 lbs which makes it easy to move around. Since there's no walls around the cushion, it's possible for it to slide off while seated, but you can add double sided Velcro tape to make the seat adhere yet still be removable. You can also place it aginst the wall so there's a "back" to the seat. The racks beneath the seat comfortably fit up to 4 pairs of sneakers or 6 pairs of narrower shoes. The shelves may not be tall enough for boots and galoshes. The only problem I had with mine is that the legs are not completely square. It wobbles from the front left foot towards the back right foot about 1/16th"". A quick fix for this was to add a felt sticker to the bottom of the ""shorter"" foot. Other than that, it's a nice looking small bench that is also a functional place to store shoes and a few other items.
