Takeaway: Stylish look, easy assembly, durable though a bit heavy, bright w/3 light levels.

The lamp post comes in a few pieces, though you'd never know it once it's assembled. The assembly instruction are easy to follow and putting it together only takes a few minutes; the lamp base is sufficiently heavy to keep the thick, frosted glass bowl from making this too top heavy. The cord on the lamp is about 6.5' long. The lamp is operated with a rotating switch just under the bowl/socket assembly. When you use a 3-way incandescent light bulb there are three brightness settings: 50 watts, 100 watts, and 150 watts. At first I wasn't able to get all three settings until I realized that if you use a CFL, LED, or fixed watt incandescent, then you'll only get 1 brightness (in two of the switch modes) and off (in the other two switch modes). This also happened when I tried a 3-way bulb that apparently had the 50W filament burned out so that only the 100W filament would illuminate in 100/150 watt mode. I also found that if the bulb wasn't screwed in all the way, the 3-way light levels would work inconsistently. Just be careful not to over-tighten the bulb or the glass bowl retaining ring. Overall, the lamp is bright at night and illuminates a small room well. The marbled frosted glass diffuser bowl looks very stylish and I liked the look of the oil rubbed bronze too.
