Takeaway: Plug and Play, simple setup, quick response time, but has a large footprint.

In the two- pack, you’ll receive two Wifi outlets and a brief instruction manual. The outlet has a plastic housing and measures 1-7/8” in diameter and 1-1/8” thick. It has a three prong grounded plug and a single power button on the left-hand side with an embedded status LED. The outlet can handle up to 1200 W and 10A draw at 120V. Note in a dual outlet panel, you won’t be able to plug both smart sockets. However, if only one is used, the other socket is still usbale with standard power plugs. In a power strip, it may block the adjacent plugs.

To set up the socket to control it via WiFi, you’ll need to download and install the Smart Life app to a mobile device. Just plug the smart plug into any outlet and the LED light should start flashing blue quickly to indicate it is in pairing mode. This smart socket will only connect to 2.4GHz bandwidth networks and cannot connect to 5GHz networks. If you’re having trouble connecting, you can try AP connection mode, by pressing and holding the power button again, until it starts flashing slowly. Then in the app, after selecting socket, tap ‘AP mode’ in the upper right hand corner and connect directly to the switch’s network, called SmartLife followed by a code.

When connected, the LED light will stop blinking (turn red or remain off). In the app you can turn the outlet on and off, set schedules for auto on/off, or start a countdown timer. With a smart assistant, like Alexa, you can use voice commands to turn on and off the power to the outlet. The outlet works great and was simple to set up. It lets me control the outlet remotely from anywhere with an internet connection using the app. When I’m at home, I can use voice commands to turn it on or off. The only improvement would be if it were a bit smaller so two could be used in the same outlet panel. However, it is smaller than my previous smart outlet and fits perfectly on a tower strip plug whereas the other one I have is too large and sometimes will come loose on its own.
