I bought these tags because I needed weatherproof tree tags that would be ""permanent"" for my backyard orchard. This box comes with 100 tags, which is more than enough for me. Inside, you’ll find 3-1/4” x 1” blank silver tags made of aluminum sheeting and 100 pieces of pre-cut wire hangers that slip into the pre-punched holes in the tags so you can attach them to whatever you need them for. The box even has a tear out section in the middle of the box to make it a dispenser of sorts, but note that it’s only useful after you’ve used up some of the tags, because otherwise they are packed in too tightly for you to pull them out from this opening; if you had a bunch laying flat you could remove them from the box. To mark the tags, you just need a ball point pen or pencil (or any blunt pointed object). The tag is soft so when you write on it, it basically etches the tag with your writing. This makes the markings on the label permanent and durable because it’ll never wash off or fade. You don’t have to press very hard to make the etching and it doesn’t bleed through to the other side, so you could write something different on the back if you wanted to.

I've tagged the various fruit trees and grafted branches I have in my orchard so I can identify exactly what varieties I have and which branches to prune or keep. With the wire hanger looped over the branch and into the holes on the tag, I just twist the ends together to hold the tag in place. I can now remove the zip ties that I’d been using previously as my markers as these tend to girdle bracnhes as the tree grows. This is not an issue with the wire hanger because I can replace them with a longer length as the branch grows wider over time. Tags that I've had on my trees for a couple years now have not rusted, tarnished, or faded, so I’m confident these will last for years to come.
