Takeaway: Quick and easy installation, though requires extra modification to stabilize. Stury and spacious, works well.

The rack requires a little bit of assembly, but is pretty simple and straightforward to put together. In the box are six 25.5” metal standards, four tall basket racks, four short basket racks, three support rails, a pack of wall mounting hardware, and a pack of door mounting hardware. The three support rails can be used with any of the baskets, so you can store taller items in them. The parts list and assembly instructions are printed on the back of the box. First, decide whether you’ll be mounting the racks to a wall or the back of a door. For us, we wanted to use this rack on the back of our pantry door for our spices and seasonings as there's plenty of space there, and this would free up a couple shelves in our cabinets. I also was frustrated with constantly digging through rows and rows of seasoning jars every time I needed to find something during cooking.

For the most part, assembly was very simple. The one snag we hit on early on, was that when testing whether the door would close fully with the rack installed, we found that the top was 'sticking' because the gap between the door and the jamb wasn't wide enough. We were able to plane and sand down the top of the door, which you might be able to do with it in place, though we did take ours off the hinges to do so. Once we confirmed that the door would close smoothly, it was a simple matter of connecting all the pieces. To improve the stability of the rack and prevent the connectors from being accidentally knocked loose, I decided to add a loop of zip tie through and around each joint where the standards attached to each other. this step may not be necessary if you follow the instructions to stabilize the rack by securing it to the door with screws and anchors. You won't want to skip this step as otherwise, we found out, the rack bounces and swings away from the open anytime it is opened and closed. If you have hollow doors, you’ll need to buy hollow door anchors separately as they are not included. However, since I did not want to drill holes in my door, we decided to use four clear plastic adhesive hanging hooks, with damage-free stickers, to keep the rack from moving.

For our screwless workaround, we attached the hooks just above each of the four joints between two standards (with the removal tab facing the inside of the rack). The hooks adequately hold the rails in place and eliminate nearly all of the swinging and prevents the racks from moving around. Now, when we open and close the door, the racks move very little, even if the door is opened and closed quite forcefully. When deciding the placement of your baskets, be mindful to leave enough clearance between racks so that you can easily put your items in and take them out. The finished rack has a total width of 18 inches from the sides of the standards and height of 77.5” from top to bottom. It’s able to accommodate all of our spices and seasonings. The baskets are each 17 inches wide and 5 inches deep, and the short ones are 1-3/4” tall while the tall ones are 2-3/4”. We’ve placed all the tallest and heaviest items on the lower three tiers using the short baskets will support rails.

This over-the door-pantry rack system helped us free up a lot of space in our kitchen cabinets and drawers, utilizing unused space, and now our spices are easily accessible with better organization. With a few slight modifications, we were able to make the unit stable, secure, and removable without putting any holes in our hollow pantry door. The door opens and closes smoothly without getting stuck, though we did have to plane the top of the door to ensure it did so, but overall the installation was straightforward.
