Takeaway: Easy to install, effective at preventing spills, good seal, cut-to-fit, affordable.
Like a lot of folks, our slide-in range has a gap to its left and right sides for clearance reasons and inevitably something will find its way into that gap, whether it’s crumbs, spills, or simply dust. When we pulled out our stove during a recent renovation, there was a lot of dried on sticky stuff on the sides of the range and its adjacent cabinetry, which can’t be good for the wood or floors either.
These gap covers should prevent this going forward. They’re basically 30” long strips of 2-1/4” wide silicone rubber. The top has a matte finish while the bottom is glossy. There’s a 3/8” tall divider on the bottom separating the strip into a 1-1/2” wide side and narrower 3/8” side. The rubber is approximately 1/16” thick.
Installation is pretty simple; you’ll insert the divider into the gap with the wider side over your countertop and the narrow side towards the appliance. Depending on how wide the gap is, this may be a snug or loose fit. It works best if the stovetop and countertop are perfectly level, but will also work fine if there's a height difference, as my stovetop is about 1/4"" higher than my countertops. Since my appliance has a depth of 26”, I used a sharp pair of scissors to trim the cover to length and followed the profile of the countertop on both sides.
I found the coverage is better if I don’t try to force the divider into the gap and just let it rest naturally so it lays flat. Now nothing can fall down into the gap between the stove and cabinets, and spills can easily be cleaned up without me having to worry about food or other debris getting stuck and attracting ants or mold. No more pulling the stove out just to clean its sides.
