Takeaway: Pumps a lot of water quickly and efficiently, but you have to monitor it.

You’ll receive the utility pump, instruction manual and roll of plumber’s Teflon tape, two 1-1/4” adapters, and a 10 ft length of garden hose to be used as a drain hose. The pump has a permanently attached 25 ft power cord with a grounded 3-prong plug.

The body of the pump is made of stainless steel and there are opening on the bottom where the pump will draw in water. This allows the pump to operate in water as shallow as 1/3” inch. There is a handle on top to make lifting and carrying the unit easier, and it weighs around 7 lbs.

On the top of the pump is a 1-1/4” female thread outlet, so if you want to use the pump with the included hose, you’ll need to install the shorter adapter, which converts it to a ¾” male GHT. Simply twist it into the outlet clockwise and hand tighten. The other adapter has 3 alternate types of connections, for example the top portion is a bard fitting for a ¾” hose without a threaded connector, the middle section is for a 1” threaded hose, and the lowest one is a 1-1/4” hose barb. To use the middle and lower connectors, you will need to saw off the portion above the one you want to use, which will permanently change the adapter meaning you can only use one of them, and once you cut it, you can’t use the portion that you’ve removed.

The included drain hose comes pre-installed with a rubber washer as well as 2 spare ones. It threads on smoothly and easily to the ¾” GHT adapter.

As the pump does not have an on/off switch, ensure that you submerge it in the vessel that you plan to drain before plugging it in, to avoid running the pump while dry and burning the motor out. I’ll be emptying this 50 gallon barrel that it filled with rain water. The water should be fairly clear, and I don’t anticipate there being a lot of debris in it that could be sucked into the pump and clog it. So I’m just going to gently place the pump in and let it sink all the way to the bottom. Then direct the other end of the hose into my pool to help fill it. When the unit turns on, the flow of water starts right away and is quite powerful as the max flow rate is.2245 GPH @ 5 ft of lift with a maximum lift of 23 ft. After just a few minutes the level inside the drum is already down nearly 6 inches. You do have to keep an eye on the water level though, as there also isn’t an automatic stop feature, so you will need to manually unplug the pump once the water level drops to 1/3” of an inch. You can see the barrel is pretty much empty at this point.

Overall, this pump did exactly what we needed it to. It moves a lot of water quickly, is lightweight and easy to use, and there were no leaks at any of the connections. It’ll help us a ton at the end of pool season when we need to drain our pool, which has around 1000 gallons in it.
