Furmax Ribbed Leather Office Chair Assembly and Review

Furmax Ribbed Leather Office Chair Assembly and Review

Takeaway: Simple assembly, comfortable, nice material, wheels and arm rests could be improved.

The chair comes disassembled so you'll have to put it together yourself but it only takes about 15 minutes and the instructions are clear and illustrated. The chair itself has a nice cushy seat that's not too hard nor too soft. The seat back can lean back a few inches, though if you tighten the tension knob on the bottom you can reduce or restrict the rocking of the back. Another way to restrict the rocking is to simply push the lift lever inward. Raising and lowering the seat wasn't a problem even at my weight of 125 lbs. In general the chair rolls ok, but not super smoothly. Sometimes the wheels stick a little, even on smooth flooring. For me, the arm rest were positioned a little too far back for working at a desk. It feels a little awkward using them even if you're leaning back and relaxing. The top of the seat back comes up just to the top of my neck. Overall, the chair is pretty nice for a low cost office chair. It's comfortable, durable, quick to assemble, and easy to adjust. The leather material feels nice and is smooth with clean stitching. The only thing I would have liked more would be if it came with smoother rolling casters and arm rest that were longer or slightly more forward.

Ragu Z400 Mini LED Projector Review

Ragu Z400 Mini LED Projector Review

Takeaway: Decent SD resolution, loud but boxy audio, USB can't power some TV sticks like Chromecast.

You'll receive the projector, remote control, 5 ft power cable, 5 ft HDMI cable, RCA input cable, and an instruction manual. The projector is compact and light, weighing a little less than 2 lbs. It measures 7.5"W x 5.75"L x 3"H. On the front of the projector is the lens which comes with a plastic snap-on lens cap. The lens is 2.25" in diameter. On the right side of the unit are the ports. There's a full size SD card slot, AV input, audio out, HDMI in, USB input, and USB out for charging a device. On the back is the remote control IR receiver, VGA input and power port. On the bottom of the unit there's a screwfoot that can add about 1/2" of tilt which can also fully retract for level viewing. There's also a 1/4" mounting hole for a standard tripod, which I prefer to use.

On top are the controls. You have the power button, input selector, return or exit key, menu selection arrows and OK button. The remote has additional keys and functions like playback controls, volume, menu, and mute. The remote requires 2 AAA batteries which are not included. Just behind the lens are two dials. The first, larger one, controls the image focus while the second smaller one is the keystone for adjusting focus pitch when the projector is projecting at an angle. The power cable for this unit tends to be too short to reach most outlets, so I typically need to run an extension cord. I mostly use this on a tripod, so I can place the projector anywhere in the room to control the size and height of the screen be changing the distance from the wall/screen. The 1200 lumens isn't all that bright, so you'll need really dark conditions to see the screen clearly.

The HDMI and other input methods seemed to work fine, but I found that the USB port can't read my USB 3.0 thumb drives. Also, the USB ports didn't provide enough power to run my Chromecast, which would power on initially but couldn't stay on. Since the remote control is infrared, it only works if you're pointing at the receiver on the back. It won't work from in front of the projector. While this projector accepts input resolutions up to 1080p HD, the native output resolution is only 800 x 480p which is standard definition, so higher quality video will be downscaled. At larger projected screen sizes, the pixels can be really obvious.

I was actually surprised at how loud the volume could get on this unit. It does sound sort of boxy and distorts at higher volumes, and it competes with the internal fan that can be quite loud. Using an external speaker hooked up to the headphone port improves the sound and makes it easier to drown out the fan noise. Overall, the contrast and color saturation appeared accurate to the source footage but wasn't very deep or rich. Sometimes images looked a bit washed out or faded or perhaps too dim/dark. However, this entry-level projector works fine for a family movie night with the kids so you can watch theater style movies at home or even outdoors. It's also fine for running slideshows at parties. Text can be a bit tricky depending on the size (though large captions were fine) so I don't recommend it for business presentations or powerpoint.

Kinsal Racing Bucketseat Gaming Chair Review

Kinsal Racing Bucketseat Gaming Chair Review

Takeaway: Decent chair for smaller folks, poor assembly instructions, weak casters, noisy fabric.

The chair comes partially disassembled and it weighs a lot, almost 50 lbs. These are the parts you'll get: the chair back and seat (one piece), two arm rests, steel wheel spoke, 5 plastic wheel casters, the height adjustment assembly, piston cover, and hydraulic piston. You'll also get a set of instructions and two Allen wrenches. The chair is wrapped in a faux composite leather that has a very strong tar smell from the dyes and inks out of the box, but the smell dissipates after a few days. At the base of the seat back is a lumbar support pillow attached via clip on elastic straps (completely removable if you don't like it) and at the neck there is a smaller pillow also attached via clip on elastic (and removable as well). The seams on the chair are finely stitched, neat and straight. The seat is a racecar style bucket seat and looks pretty cool.

The instructions actually include some steps that are already completed, so they're a little bit misleading. To assemble the chair, first remove the four screws on the bottom of the seat for the height adjustment assembly, the part with the height lever. Then, attach the assembly using the screws you just removed making sure that the arrow with the word "front" points towards the front of the seat. If you install this piece backwards the chair will feel like it's tilting forward at an awkward angle when you sit in it; I found this out the hard way!

If you're installing the arms, remove the four outer screws on the sides. Then attach the arms making sure the longer section of the arm faces the front of the seat, the arms are specifically left and right but unmarked which is why this is important. The caster wheels are plastic and lightweight, but they're hard and feel pretty durable with metal stems. I was rolling these around on tile (without a person in it) and they seemed fine on their own, but they don't work as well when you're actually seated in the chair. The chair arms can be adjusted independently up and down, forward and back and angled inward a couple degrees. This is for supporting your arms and elbows when using the keyboard and mouse to prevent "mouse elbow." The seat back can be reclined to a fully horizontal position which is pretty neat. The chair itself is decently comfortable for someone my size (5'4", 120 lbs) and the lumbar support and neck pillow provide additional support, but can start to feel lumpy after a while, but at least you can remove them if you need to. The only difficulty I had was that I wasn't quite heavy enough to lower the seat with my body weight and had to bounce it down to get the seat lower. The seat also doesn't raise very high in general if you have a tall desk. Overall, the seat is pretty comfortable, but because the fabric doesn't breathe, you tend to get a little sweaty sitting in it a long time and the material squeaks a bit.

TaoTronics TT-BS021 Wireless Barcode Scanner Review

Wirelessly Scan Your Inventory Using this Handy Barcode Scanner

Buy it at Amazon: TaoTronics TT-BS021 Wireless Barcode Scanner [Affiliate Link]

Takeaway: With a handheld wireless scanner gun, you can bring your scanner to the item and get it in hard to reach places.

This is great if you deal with big, bulky items or keep a lot of inventory far from your terminal that you'd like to track. The included cable is about 4 ft long and also transmits data when plugged into your computer or POS machine. But with the 60 hour battery life on a full charge, you won't have to have this scanner plugged in often. The scanner functions as you would expect. It reads only 1D type barcodes (UPC, ISBN etc.) so no 2D or QR codes. You should also note that you won't be able scan barcodes on mobile devices or computer screens.

The wireless receiver is plug-and-play and there was no additional setup on the computer that was needed. Page 2 of the manual it says this model has a standard Bluetooth protocol, but I'm not sure that applies to this model. The 2.4 GHz wireless receiver works great up to 30 feet away. But you can also use the scanner to record barcodes remotely when set to inventory mode.

The rubberized and recessed face keeps scratches off the laser eye and the read outs are accurate. The materials seems durable and well-made, however, with limited body protection, I wouldn't be comfortable dropping this thing or putting anything on top of it. The scanner laser works at a wide range of angles but works best when the gun isn't pointed exactly perpendicular to the barcode. That is, aim the barcode scanner at a slight to 45 degree angle to the barcode and it will scan more easily (a bit counter-intuitive).

Visioneer RoadWarrior Lite Portable Scanner Review Model S8X1100 Review

Need a Doc Scanner That Travels with You? Try Visioneer's RoadWarrior Lite

Buy it at Amazon: Visioneer RoadWarrior Lite Portable Scanner Model S8X1100 [Affiliate Link]

Takeaway: Lightweight and portable, get clear digital copies, fast.

The Visioneer RoadWarrior Lite Portable Scanner (model #S8X1100) is a lightweight and high resolution scanner that makes it easy to keep track of receipts and scan individual documents on the go. Lightweight and portable, get clear digital copies, fast... As long as you're fine doing it one page at a time.

This is exactly the kind of scanner I was looking for to travel with. The scanner is powered by USB, so I don't have to hunt for another outlet and it's pretty much plug and play. The one touch scanning is a great feature since once the unit is on I can insert a new page without having to click or press any buttons between sheets. The black and white settings and OCR text recognition work great on receipts and documents and the quality of the color scans isn't bad either. The only thing you wouldn't be able to scan versus a flatbed would be book pages or thicker media. You should be able to get business cards and heavy card stock through it though. By default, the scanner saves each page as its own file, but you can change the setting to aggregate multiple pages into one file without having to take a break in between pages. The software that came with it is also impressive. It will automatically "clean up" your images, straighten AND crop them! My all-in-one printer/scanner combo doesn't even do that. Just be sure to remove any paper clips or staples before feeding your pages through. You should probably stick with only putting single sheets through this one. The footprint is so small that I keep this on my desk at home even when I'm not traveling. It beats having to stand by the printer just to scan a few items.
